Jean-Aldebert Wowitz or Vovis, cabinetmaker, received master in 1767.
Few information has survived about this cabinetmaker of German origin who obtained his master craftsmanship in Paris in 1767 and established himself on Rue Traversière. In addition to our table, a backgammon table stamped by Vovis, featuring the same light wood marquetry and very simple design, was sold at Christie’s London on 17 May 2017, lot 42.
