Description
modelled by J. F. Lück, the female figure holding a bird cage, with a small bird perched on her left hand, the male figure holding his hat aloft where a further bird is nestling, both wearing blue trimmed costumes, on gilt-edged scrollwork bases, she with rampant lion mark in underglaze-blue, both with incised H.I.

A very similar pair of figures, also with blue trimmed costumes, was sold at Sotheby’s, London, 17 June 1975, lot 18. This subject exists in slightly earlier models by J. W. Lanz at the Frankenthal factory. A pair of the earlier models, formerly in the Collection of Baron Max von Goldschmidt Rothschild, Frankfurt, sold at Sotheby’s, London, 18 October 1988, lot 481.
