A similar sheep in Meissen porcelain with gilt-bronze mounts is held at the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, inv. 834-1882.
The sheep model appears in Kändler's workbooks in April 1747 as "Etliche Schaafe von feiner Grösse, sowohl stehende als liegende, corrigiret, zerschnitten" and then in Reinicke's records the following month as "1 liegend Schaf zum Basseng in thon boussiert."
