Nicolas Quinibert Foliot (1706–1776) was admitted to the guild of master-joiners ("reçu maître") in 1729, and would provide fluid, finely carved seat furniture for many royal palaces during the Louis XV period. His works can still be seen in French châteaux, including a suite made for Madame du Barry's château de Saint-Hubert and now in the Petit Trianon (e.g. V 5749.1), and are also in important decorative arts collections like the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York (e.g. 66.60.2). A notable suite that was likely made for Madame de Pompadour is now at Waddesdon Manor, Buckinghamshire (3253.1-8).
