Description

Antique Spiritus Frumenti 100 Proof 1917

Distilled prior to September 22 1917 at the Frankfort Distillery by The George T. Stagg Co. Inc., perforated rear of original carton missing, tamper-proof carton scuffed, torn, and dented,

The fill level for this bottle sits between the bottom of the tax strip and the top of the front label

This bottle, and especially its packaging, is a rare historical testament to the changes imposed by Prohibition. Produced at the George T. Stagg Distillery, now known as Buffalo Trace, it comes in a tamper-proof carton that originally displayed an extensive note on the back label to druggists and consumers explaining how to open it and how to identify evidence of tampering. Though the bottling date on the tax strip is hidden by the tamper-proof carton, similar releases Sotheby's has auctioned in the past were bottled in 1934.

1 bottle pint (original carton)
