The Vendôme Bi-Plan stands apart within Cartier’s production of the late twentieth century, combining the maison’s classical Roman numeral dial language with an unconventional stepped case architecture. The present reference 2220 is distinguished by its circular yellow gold case suspended between elongated horizontal brancards, creating a profile that feels both architectural and distinctly Cartier.
The silvered dial is restrained and finely executed, with black Roman numerals complemented by blued steel hands. Particularly attractive is the contrast between the geometric rigidity of the dial and the softness of the rounded case form. The stepped triple-body construction visible from the reverse gives the model its “Bi-Plan” designation and lends the watch a sculptural quality.
