A highly important and exceptionally rare platinum skeletonized tourbillon wristwatch, made to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Royal Oak in 2012. Measuring 41mm, this reference represents a significant milestone for Audemars Piguet as the first Royal Oak in this larger 41mm case size to combine a tourbillon with a fully openworked (skeletonized) movement. The intricately hand-finished caliber displays exceptional anglage and architectural depth, with the tourbillon positioned at 6 o’clock serving as both a technical regulator and visual centerpiece.
Preserving the iconic Gérald Genta design, the watch features the signature octagonal bezel with eight hexagonal screws and an integrated platinum bracelet. Produced in a strictly limited series of only 40 individually numbered pieces, each example is engraved to mark the 40th anniversary of the Royal Oak, with earlier openworked executions existing in smaller case formats.
The present watch is offered in excellent condition and is accompanied by its original certificate and instruction manual. It has recently been serviced by Audemars Piguet and remains under manufacturer warranty. Furthermore, it is presented with its highly distinctive oversized presentation box, a deliberate homage to the original 1972 Royal Oak reference 5402 packaging, and includes a polishing cloth and an Audemars Piguet anniversary loupe.
A rare and desirable collector’s piece, combining historical significance, technical innovation, and extreme exclusivity.
