Introduced in 1968, the Golden Ellipse marked a departure from Patek Philippe’s traditional round and rectangular forms, its proportions derived from the golden ratio, long associated with balance and harmony in classical design.
The present reference 3546, dating to circa 1970, is an early example of the model, executed in yellow gold and fitted with a matching bracelet. The softly elliptical case and champagne dial, combined with Roman numerals, give the watch a restrained and highly coherent appearance, while the use of a slim manual-winding movement allows the case to retain its notably thin profile.
