The IWC Portugieser was introduced in 1939 and has since become a symbol of timeless elegance. The present reference 5240 was first released in 1995 and pays homage to the original Portugieser, the reference 325 by utilizing the iconic 'International Watch Co.' logo font on its elegant silvered dial. In addition to recalling the esteemed heritage of IWC, the 5240 also contains one of the most revered and desirable complications in watchmaking: the minute repeater. A technical and artistic marvel, the minute repeater remains the domain of only the most skilled master watchmakers.
Invented during a time period before widespread and reliable artificial illumination, the repeating complication was groundbreaking for its ability to chime the hours, quarters, and even minutes, on demand, and allowed the time to be determined in the dark and by the visually impaired. A technological marvel, repeaters are beloved today as a testament to engineering ingenuity.
We are pleased to offer the present 5240 complete with its full suite of accessories in excellent condition.
