First introduced in 1912 by Louis Cartier, the Tortue represented a bold departure from the traditional round watch form, taking inspiration from the distinctive silhouette of a tortoise. Both elegant and unconventional, the design quickly became one of Cartier’s most recognizable models and has remained a favorite among collectors ever since, with numerous interpretations over the decades.
The present example was produced as part of the Collection Privé Cartier Paris (CPCP), an important chapter in Cartier’s modern watchmaking history. Introduced in 1998 and produced until 2008, the CPCP collection celebrated Cartier’s heritage of fine mechanical watchmaking at a time when the brand had become widely associated with quartz timepieces.
The present lot is further accompanied by a suite of accessories, including its original CPCP presentation box.
