Description
Of stylised floral and foliate motifs set with seed pearls and old mine-cut diamonds, later stitched against a black velvet band.
See Scarisbrick, Diana, Jewellery in Britain 1066-1837, Norwich, 1994, page 283 for a necklace designed by Christian Taute, c.1750. From the mid 18th century "every woman of means aspired to the ownership of a rose- or brilliant-cut diamond necklace, perhaps with coloured stones set into clusters, or links of openwork floral and foliate motifs intertwined with ribbons and bows, sometimes set off by mounting on black velvet of coloured ribbon".
