Description
Designed as Buddha carved in amethyst, the ushnisha formed of a baroque pearl, sat upon a carved carnelian medallion within a surround of carved onyx, circular-cut emeralds and cultured pearls, accented by rose-cut diamonds.
The Parisian maison Sasportas, awarded a gold medal at the 1925 Exposition des Arts Décoratifs, is recognised for its unique creations distinguished by geometric and later retro inflections. The workshop was noted for its inventive use of rare and unusual gemstones, combining them with precision to produce jewels of marked individuality such as this pendant. Alongside its own production, Sasportas also served as a workshop for leading jewellery houses, including Cartier and Van Cleef & Arpels.
