Raymond Templier was born into a long‑established Parisian jewellery dynasty: his grandfather Charles founded Maison Templier in 1849, and his father Paul expanded it into a prosperous firm. After studying at the École nationale supérieure des arts décoratifs (1909–1912), he joined the family business in 1919. Raymond Templier's style can be included in the geometric abstraction movement with pieces such as this brooch using forms such as arcs, semi‑circles, stepped forms, and intersecting planes. Templier was also one of the founding members of the Union des Artistes Modernes (UAM) in 1929, alongside Jean Fouquet, Jean Després, and Pierre Chareau who were committed to breaking with historical styles and embracing modernity.
