8vo. Pages 349–352 uncancelled; a few stray spots near gutter, faint toning, scattered staining to pp. 267–275. Original dark green cloth, spine gilt-lettered; a little cocked, slight wear to cloth with very minor fraying at head and tail of spine, one or two stains to fore-edge. Original pictorial dust jacket; front flap clipped, old tape repairs, wear with some loss primarily to folds, spine very slightly sunned. Custom slipcase and folding chemise.

First edition, first state of Fitzgerald’s Taps at Reveille, the final publication of short stories within the author’s lifetime. 

Taps at Reveille represents a compilation of Fitzgerald’s favorite short stories composed over the previous decade. This would also be the last collection of stories published in his lifetime. Originally written for The Saturday Evening Post, some were viewed as “a bit too sexy,” and then censored accordingly (Rothman). The edits remain in this version, but “the characteristic seal of his brilliance [nonetheless] stamps the entire book” (Walton).
