Richard Pettibone

Acquired directly from the artist in 1975 by the present owner

In 1975, Richard Pettibone created one of his characteristically scaled miniature paintings inspired by the visual language of Photorealism. As part of its conception, he photographed the Photorealist artist Ron Kleemann seated in the striking red Ferrari of Louis K. Meisel, his art dealer and one of the foremost champions of the Photorealist movement, outside Kleemann's residence. The resulting painting exemplifies Pettibone's enduring engagement with photography as source material and his ability to distill contemporary visual culture into works of striking intimacy and precision.
