The flagship annual Chinese Art sale in London encompasses the full range of China’s diverse artistic tradition from the Neolithic to Qing. Sotheby’s is honoured to be offering two fine assemblages of early ceramics and works of art: a selection of early ceramics from the Houlezhai Collection, led by an exceptional Northern Song dynasty Cizhou sgraffiato meiping, and the collection of Sir Ewen and Lady Ferguson. The highlight of the sale is an extremely rare Xuande reign-marked yellow-ground blue and white ‘pomegranate’ dish, one of only five recorded examples.

The sale includes a group of Qing Imperial documents and paintings from the personal collection of the renowned sinologist Professor Martin Gimm (1930-2025), and a group of important official documents from senior CCP leadership dating to 1952, including signed correspondence from Mao Zedong and Deng Xiaoping. There are also strong sections of archaic bronzes, fine Ming and Qing porcelain, Imperial cloisonne, jade and other works of art.
