4to (218 x 154 mm). COLLATION: a4 A4 b-l8 m6 o6: 99 leaves (only, of 100: lacking o6 terminal blank). Title-page with large woodcut device of Jacques Huguetan, contemporary rubrications and colouring in yellow throughout, a few early modern marginalia, modern half morocco over marbled boards by Sangorski & Sutcliffe, red sprinkled edges, endleaves renewed, some marginalia cropped, some spotting and soiling, a couple of leaves with large stains, dampstain to upper board


AN EXCEPTIONALLY RARE EDITION OF THE FIRST MODERN HANDBOOK FOR THE APOTHECARY, WITH CONTEMPORARY RUBRICATIONS THROUGHOUT. Prevost's work first appeared in print in 1499. The USTC lists just 3 institutional copies of the present (1505) edition. The present volume matches the description of a copy offered by the London bookdealer E.P. Goldschmidt in 1937 (Catalogue 43: Old Science and Medicine, item 168).
