Compare a similar pair without speckles, with the same outline on the underside, exhibited in Kosometsuke and Shonzui, Marchant, London, 2024, cat. no. 24, where the authors state that "five different types of recumbed horse models are known". A composite set of five with four similar to the present example are illustrated in Saito Kikutaro, Complete Collection of Ceramics, vol. 15. Kosometsuke, Tokyo, 1979, p. 62, and are now preserved in the Seikado Bunko Art Museum, Tokyo; and an unspeckled example from the Effie B. Allison collection, now preserved in the Asian Art Museum, San Francisco, was exhibited in Julia B. Curtis, Trade Taste & Transformation, Jingdezhen Porcelain for Japan, 1620-1645, China Institute Gallery, New York, 2006, cat. no. 30.
