A Jewelled Ormolu, Gold, Enamel, and Hardstone Timepiece, Anton Daniel Meisner, Austria, circa 1830, with earlier elements

in the shape of a standing clock supported on a lioness' back, the white enamel watch dial with openwork hands, framed with chased gold roses above engraved gold figures of Mercury and Bacchus under glass on a darkened metal ground, surmounted with a gilt-bronze seated putto playing the mandolin, the bloodstone sides applied with rose-cut diamond-set scrolling ornaments above laurel, the bloodstone reverse overlaid with an opulent chased gold flower vase framed with scrollwork, opening to reveal the reverse of the timepiece, signed: Anton Daniel Meisner, the ormolu trelliswork foot resting on the back of a carved banded agate lioness in richly-decorated and jewelled trappings, also wearing a white enamel collar with gold lettering reading: L'Amitié Fait Fort, on a carved rectangular agate base applied with rose-cut diamond-set ribbons and leaves, scrolling ormolu feet, apparently unmarked
