rectangular with cut corners, the lid painted en plein with a large circular medallion representing Clio with a child and a bystanding young gentleman, against an opalescent pink sky over sunburst engine-turning, on a reeded gold ground within borders of white and cornflower blue enamel circles, the sides and base similarly decorated, maker's mark FJ within stylised N marks, the base with a sundial mark within sprigs, the right rim numbered: 4639

This box can be dated to 1798 with certainty because another box stamped with the preceding serial number (4638) by Freres Jordan, the lid painted with the muse of History, is dated to that year (sold as part of the Alan and Simone Hartman collection Part II, Sotheby's New York, 16 October 2025, lot 4630.
