oval, both hinged lids overlaid with chased openwork representing putti with trophies of love, surmounted by a ribbon hung with laurels, within polished frames and engraved leaf tip borders, the bloodstone body carved with shells to each side below the small rose-cut diamond-set thumbpieces, the sides with gold-framed apertures for the thumb below tasselled bows, apparently unmarked apart from later control marks
