Description
J.W. Gottlieb Private Stock Straight Rye 13 Year Old 95.6 Proof 1984 (Signed Bottle)
Distilled in Spring 1984, bottled in 1997 exclusively for Jonathan W. Gottlieb by Commonwealth Distillery Co., Lawrenceburg, Kentucky, front label very slightly soiled and raised in bottom left hand corner
This bottle has been signed by Julian Van Winkle III specially for The Great American Whiskey Collection
Little is known about this bottling, thought to have been produced as a private label by Julian Van Winkle III for a prominent lawyer, Jonathan W. Gottleib. One of the rarest bottles of Van Winkle known to exist, the whisky itself came from the same stock of Medley Rye that was being used for the VW Family reserve Rye, also aged 13 years. Similarly to the Lotta's Home, bottled in 1998 as a 13 Year Old at the same strength, the crudely cut label appears to be completely custom, featuring words from Gottleib himself, whilst Julian himself has described the whiskey as "some of the best on the planet". It is thought that less than 100 bottles were produced, with this one appearing at auction for the very first time as part of The Great American Whiskey Collection.
1 bottle 75cl (no original packaging)
