A Gold and Enamel Snuff Box, Paris, 1764/1765

oval, the sides elaborately painted en plein with Diana and her hounds and Diana as protector of the flocks, flanked with chased gold husk and rocaille dividers, the short sides painted en plein with an allegory of love and the hunt, above chased entrelac-de-rubans borders, the lid and base centred with later oval enamel plaques, depicting mythological subjects, in chased gold bezels, crowned with chased musical trophies within ribbon-tied husk borders in two-coloured gold, on a burnished gold ground, framed by chased scrollwork and flowerhead borders, charge and discharge marks of Jean Jacques Prévost (1762-1768), contremarque of Julien Alaterre (1768-1774), Paris date letter A for 1764 (side) and B for 1765 (base lining), the left rim stamped: 394, the front rim later engraved: V^e George a Paris
