Former Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé collection.
In 1946, Jean Cocteau's play L'Aigle à deux Têtes was presented at the Théâtre Hébertot in Paris, with costumes designed by Christian Bérard. Thirty years later, in 1977, Yves Saint Laurent was invited to design the costumes and sets for the same play, which was performed in early 1978 at the Athénée Louis Jouvet theatre.
That same year, Yves Saint Laurent also revolutionised the world of perfume with the launch of Opium. The bold and provocative choice of name caused a scandal because of its connotations with drugs and addiction. The bottle was inspired by the inrô, a traditional Japanese box used to carry medicinal herbs. Made from red lacquer, it became a timeless icon and a symbol of refinement.
These two designs (front and back) embody the visionary spirit and artistic daring of Yves Saint Laurent. By pushing back the boundaries of fashion and design, he was able to reinvent the codes of luxury and inscribe his work in a constant dialogue between culture and innovation, leaving an indelible mark on his era.
