"Ich war noch niemals in New York" is a musical inspired by hit songs from the Udo's back catalogue.

The plot revolves around a middle-aged German couple who, disillusioned with their predictable lives, decide to embark on an exhilarating journey to the Big Apple. Their trip becomes a voyage of self-discovery, romance, and the realization that it's never too late to pursue one's passions.

The musical features an array of Udo's timeless songs. Hits like "Ich war noch niemals in New York," "Mit 66 Jahren," and "Griechischer Wein" become a part of a single story. ‘The fact that a new musical is being created from my musical life's work is an indescribable feeling for me,’ stated Jürgens.

When "Ich war noch niemals in New York" graced the stage in Vienna, it became a resounding celebration of Udo's enduring legacy. The premiere in the heart of Austria’s capital was a spectacular event and its run, at the Raimund hosted a whopping 592 performances and had over sixty thousand visitors, making it one of the most successful productions of the house. The production also received a special Viennese twist, setting the Musical in Austria.

In an interview Udo stated, ‘For me as a composer, musician and singer with countless concert appearances of my own, a dream has come true: My songs can be heard in a musical theatre. The musical is a wonderful form of theatre, because the audience longs for understandable, emotional stories! For songs that you can sympathize with and experience. The musical tells a story very close to life and everyday life that could somehow have happened to anyone, anywhere, and I particularly like that. I think it captures the tone of my songs exactly, because my songs are from today. They are about fears and moments of happiness in our present. ICH WAR NOCH NIEMALS IN NEW YORK is a comedy with depth and a musical to make you laugh - a real piece of entertainment!’.

With over one million visitors in Hamburg, a traveling tour, and residencies in cities around the world, the Musical is a homage to Udo and his legacy.
