Seven Japanese wood and lacquered mask netsuke

Edo period, 18th - 19th century


the first of Hannya, signed Shuzan; the second of Okame, stained hair details, signed Shugetsu saku; the third a miniature okina mask; the fourth a red and gold lacquer mask; the fifth a mask of a man with one bulging eye, the other closed, the reverse hollowed and the himotoshi formed by his nostrils; and two others, framed in a box mount


4.5 to 5.4 cm., 1¾ to 2⅛ in.
