Sotheby's Paris, 7 November 2013, lot 105;

Where acquired by Aso O. Tavitian.

Dating to very beginning of the eighteenth century, when the more relaxed and fluid Régence style was beginning to emerge, these wall lights feature prominent masks that were staples of the Louis XIV style, particularly the creations of the Premier ébéniste du Roi André-Charles Boulle. Similar fine examples in this popular style, similarly with cartouche-form outlines, have been offered recently at Sotheby’s Paris, on 23 June 2021, lot 20 and, as part of the Dillée collection, on 18 March 2015, lot 5. . A similar example in a public collection is held at the Musée Carnavalet, MB385-1 and MB385-2, donated by the important antiques dealer Henriette Bouvier in 1966.
