After Japan’s golden era of pitchers such as Yu Darvish, Shohei Ohtani, and Masahiro Tanaka, a new phenomenon emerged on the mound: Rōki Sasaki. Bursting onto the scene as a teenager with unprecedented velocity and poise, Sasaki quickly established himself as one of the most electrifying talents the game has ever seen.

From the moment he entered Nippon Professional Baseball, Sasaki delivered a series of performances that defied belief: triple-digit fastballs, devastating splitters that vanished from the zone, and command beyond his years. On April 10, 2022, he authored one of the greatest pitching displays in baseball history—a perfect game with 19 strikeouts, tying the NPB record while recording the first perfect game in the NPB for 28 years. In his very next start, he retired 24 consecutive batters in eight perfect innings, extending his streak to an astounding 52 straight outs, the longest such run ever recorded in either the NPB or the MLB.

Sasaki quickly earned recognition on the international stage as well. Representing Japan in the 2023 World Baseball Classic, he demonstrated his signature power and fearlessness, contributing to Japan’s championship run and further solidifying his status as one of global baseball’s brightest young stars.
