Description
Wilson football
Circa 2002
Sotheby’s is proud to present this signed football from 37 members of the Super Bowl XXXVI winning New England Patriots team. This ball commemorates a pivotal moment in NFL history when the underdog New England Patriots shocked the heavily favored St. Louis Rams with a dramatic 20–17 victory.
The ball was signed by the Patriots members for the team physician at the exit examination after winning the franchise's first ever Super Bowl, which was also the first of seven titles for quarterback Tom Brady.
Played on February 3, 2002, in New Orleans, the game pitted the Rams’ high-powered offense—dubbed “The Greatest Show on Turf”—against a resilient Patriots team led by first-year starting quarterback Tom Brady. New England’s defense disrupted the Rams' rhythm, forcing turnovers and limiting big plays. With the score tied at 17 and just over a minute remaining, Brady calmly orchestrated a final drive with no timeouts, setting up kicker Adam Vinatieri for a 48-yard game-winning field goal as time expired. The win marked the Patriots’ first Super Bowl title and the beginning of a historic dynasty under head coach Bill Belichick and quarterback Tom Brady.
This lot is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from PSA regarding the signatures as well as Letter of Provenance from the Team Physician. The ball is also accompanied by a plexiglass display case.
