Description
KEITH FERRIS
“Texaco Service on the Moon,” 1970.
Oil on board, 20 x 30 inches, signed ("Keith Ferris"). Matted, glazed, and framed.
Texaco’s fascinating vision of early development on the lunar surface complete with a filling station and other domed structures, lunar landers, a satellite dish for communications, a lunar buggy and space-suited humans. The barren lunar plain along with the rising Earth above lends a sense of quiet to the painting.
Keith Ferris, known for his extraordinary images of aviation, completed this painting as a commission for the American oil giant in 1970 - the height of the Apollo program and a time of great possibility.
