Description

[GEMINI XII]

Space Selfie During Longest Gemini EVA

Large color photograph, 20 x 20 inches. SIGNED by Gemini XII Pilots BUZZ ALDRIN and JIM LOVELL. INSCRIBED in silver ink: “Buzz During EVA / Jim Lovell / Gemini XII” and "THE LONGEST GEMINI EVA / Buzz Aldrin / Gemini XII."

THE FIRST SELFIE FROM SPACE

Pilot Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin took this self portrait with the Earth in the background. Along with Command Pilot Jim Lovell, Gemini XII demonstrated that astronauts could effectively work outside of a spacecraft. Aldrin performed three extravehicular activities (EVAs), totaling 5 hours and 30 minutes, a record at the time. These EVAs were crucial for developing vital skills needed for the upcoming Apollo program.
