Description
[APOLLO 17]
Earth as Seen From the Command Module America
Color photograph, 22.75 x 22.75 in., SIGNED and INSCRIBED in silver ink by Mission Commander GENE CERNAN: "Gene Cernan / Apollo XVII".
EARTH AS SEEN FROM SPACE
The iconic "Blue Marble" photograph of the Earth, taken on December 7, 1972, from CSM America. Apollo 17 was the first mission in which the trajectory made it possible to photograph the ice cap of the South Pole. The image was captured by the crew en route to the Moon, and at a distance of about 18,000 miles. Africa, Antarctica, and the Arabian Peninsula are visible in this incredible image.
