Nitro Microphone Underground emerged from Tokyo as one of Japanese hip-hop’s most influential collectives. Their self-titled 1999 indie album sold out immediately and was reissued the following year by Def Jam Japan, reaching number 12 on the charts. Frequently compared to the Wu-Tang Clan, the group achieved major success without following pop trends.

In 2008, as part of Nike’s 1World Influencer Pack, Nitro Microphone Underground became the first Asia Pacific collaborator in the series celebrating Air Force 1 through partnerships with 18 global influencers. The Air Force 1 Supreme Low features a 3M reflective mosaic digital camouflage upper, a black Swoosh, and a visible heel Air unit. The release was accompanied by a matching New Era cap and t-shirt, further cementing the group’s influence across music, fashion, and street culture.
