Sotheby’s received the following letter of Provenance from the consignor, Jesse Sluyter, a former ballboy for the Seattle Supersonics.

Good morning:

I am Jesse Sluyter, and was a Seattle SuperSonics Bally boy from 1994 to 2008. I got these Dirk Nowitzki shoes back in 2004 to 2005. I saw him 2 times a year for 15 years. He was a great person and one of the best NBA players. He always had a smile on his face and was always getting to know the people around him. It was a great interaction and experience to meet one of the greats in NBA history.

Thank you,

Jesse Sluyter

Long considered one of the NBA’s best players, not to mention the greatest international player in basketball, German legend Dirk Nowitzki spent his entire 21-year NBA career with the Dallas Mavericks. Known for his patented one-legged fadeaway jumper, Nowitzki nearly single-handedly transformed the Mavericks into a perennial playoff team and championship contender. He famously led the Mavericks to two NBA Finals appearances, including the 2011 NBA championship over LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and the Miami Heat.
