NIKE, NIKE MAG PLUTONIUM CASE
Metal, Glass
Circa 2010
The Nike MAG, which premiered in the 1989 sequel, Back to the Future II, was instantly one of the most coveted – but unavailable – shoes in history. In 2011, Nike finally released 1,500 pairs to the public to benefit the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, which marked one of Nike’s most popular releases.
In the film, Marty time travels to the year 2015, and famously turns on his Nike MAGs featuring ‘power laces’, which self-lace. That moment, and later scenes in the movie, became iconic in the history of footwear, inspiring multiple releases by Nike, including the Nike MAG (2011), Nike MAG (2016), the Nike Adapt Mag (2019), amongst others.
Offered in this lot is an exceptionally rare variation of the 2011 Nike MAG, presented with the limited edition ‘Plutonium Case’. Originally released through eBay auctions, the case is individually numbered 29/45 and notably signed by both Tiffany Beers and Tinker Hatfield.
Accompanying the lot is a Production Book containing: notes, storyboards, and the script for what appears to be the 2011 Nike MAG commercial, which featured Tinker Hatfield, Christopher Lloyd, and Kevin Durant.
