Description

14K Gold

Sotheby’s is proud to present a 14k gold necklace worn by Wilt Chamberlain over the course of his life. The necklace features a pendant that depicts a Pharaoh with a snake. The back of the pendant reads “CURIOSITY KILLED A CAT : TURNING THIS OVER WON’T BRING IT BACK.” Throughout his life, both during his dominant playing days on the hardwood and in retirement, Chamberlain was often seen wearing this exact necklace.

On October 2, 1998 Wilt Chamberlain attended the Basketball Hall of Fame Enshrinement Ceremony in Springfield, Massachusetts. Chamberlain was photographed wearing this gold necklace.

On December 13, 1998, the city of Chatsworth, California, hosted its annual Christmas Parade, with Wilt Chamberlain serving as the Grand Marshal. Chamberlain was photographed riding in the back of a car, waving to the crowd, and wearing this signature gold necklace.

Chamberlain's career blended unparalleled dominance on the court, cultural impact as an African American athlete, and records that still stand today, all while wearing this one-of-a-kind necklace.
