Description
The obverse collet-set with variously shaped rose- and table-cut diamonds in closed back settings, the reverse decorated with a red, blue, green and white enamelled floral design, suspending a fluted emerald bead, on a textured gold chain, length approximately 560mm; mid-20th century.
Azam Jah, Prince of Berar (1907-1970) and Princess Dürrüşehvar Sultan (1914-2006)
This pendant was a gift of Azam Jah, Prince of Berar (1907-1970), the eldest son and heir of the last Nizam of Hyderabad, and his wife Princess Dürrüşehvar Sultan (1914-2006) who was the paternal aunt of Neslishah Sultan. Dürrüşehvar Sultan was the daughter of the last Ottoman Caliph Abdulmejid II (1868-1944). She was much beloved by her subjects in Hyderabad for her regal countenance, wide cultural knowledge and extensive charitable work in the fields of medicine and female education.
