Thence by descent to the present owners
Two years after Egon Schiele’s death, the Handzeichnungen portfolio was published to celebrate an impressive selection of expressive portraits the artist created from 1910-18. Seven of the drawings which inspired this series of collotypes were from the collection of Dr. Heinrich Rieger, the renowned Austrian art patron who championed the young artist’s career. The present portfolio was printed aside from the total edition of 510 and dedicated to Dr. Rieger’s son, Robert.
