The present armchair is pictured circa 1960 in a black and white photograph of Hartnell’s bedroom at his country home, Lovel Dene, (Hartnell-Mitchison Archive. Box 41). Lovel Dene, a Queen Anne cottage in Windsor Forest, Berkshire, was acquired in 1935 and was extensively re-modelled for Norman Hartnell by the architect Gerald Lacoste (1909–1983). The interior designer was Norris Wakefield.
