This composition relates to a drawing in the British Museum, London, by Lambert Lombard (c. 1505/6–1566).¹

Note on Provenance

In the early twentieth century, this painting was owned by Armand Hessel: the Austrian Consul at Antwerp. Among other paintings in his collection, Hessel counted Bartolomeo Manfredi's A Drinking and Musical Party, which was acquired by the Getty Museum, Los Angeles, last year.²
