The cup on a square base and acanthus leaf stem, the shallow body with a vine leaf lip and two horse handles, the plinth with blue stone panels, later corner mounts, two sides applied with inscribed plaques,

The plaques on the plinth are engraved with the arms of Maher, for John Maher of Tullemaine Castle, co. Tipperary and 'Howth Meeting 1841. Won by Mr Maher's Johnny, 4yrs old carrying 11st 5lb, got by Elvas out of Perdita'.
