the rectangular slab top on a base with cabriole legs and paw feet

90.5cm high, 77cm wide, 46.5cm deep;

2ft. 11 ½ in., 2ft. 6 ¼ in., 1ft. 6 ¼ in.

Commissioned during a period of renovation at the family's ancestral seat, circa 1865-1870;

For comparable tables with similar hardstone tops, see Sotheby's, Stokesay Court, 28 September 1994, lot 44. The scale of the present lot suggests that it was constructed as more of a stand for display, particularly when the rarity of the hardstone top is considered.
