of the second size, decorated in platinum and gilding with trelliswork enclosing flowerheads below an anthemion border, the interior with a gilt foliate border, the gilt-scroll handles with central white and gilt flower roundel and palmette terminal, gilt rims, crowned LP monogram, SEVRES and 1838 mark printed in blue, one with gilder's n....38 mark, the other with partial green enamel script ground colour firing mark, one incised 8 JB (?) - 35 to footrim, the other incised CG (?) - 35 to base

Height 26 cm., 10 1/4 in.

This pair of vases, distinguished by an elegant gold and platinum design, entered the factory shop on the 6 July 1838, described as 'Vases Jasmin a anses 2ème grandeur, beau bleu décor en or et platine', at the price 125 francs each (Sèvres, Cité de la céramique, Archives, Vv3, fol. 39-16). It was only on the 29 April 1843 that these vases left the factory shop, to be delivered as part of two large and urgent shipments of vases, by order of the Intendant Général to the Garde-Meuble, then refered to as Conservation du Mobilier de la couronne (Sèvres, Cité de la céramique, Archives, Vbb 10, fol. It is probable that they were intended as part of the furnishings for one of the royal palaces following renovations and redecoration initiated by Louis-Philippe I upon his accession to the throne.
