indieguerillas is a husband-and-wife artist duo consisting of Dyatmiko Lancur Bawono and Santi Ariestyowanti. Founded in 1999 as a graphic design firm, indieguerillas’s philosophy of being “constantly in guerrilla to find new possibilities” led them to become full-time artists in 2007. Design continues to play a very important role as it allows for them to explore the use of unconventional media and techniques. Their works intertwine traditional values, folklore influences and contemporary culture to produce a unique visual language that speaks to current issues. This can be seen in Say ¥ € $ :V ¥ € € € $ ! , where elements of Javanese wayang shadow puppets are fused with a Magic 8 ball to become a character that resembles Mickey Mouse.
indieguerillas has presented more than a dozen solo presentations at venues such as National Gallery of Australia, Mizuma Gallery (Singapore), NTU Centre for Contemporary Art (Singapore) and Valentine Willie Fine Art (Kuala Lumpur), among others. Their work can be found in the collections of institutions such as Tumurun Private Museum, OHD Museum, Singapore Art Museum, Guangdong Museum of Art and Fukutake House.
