Boris Grigoriev, Boui Boui au bord de la mer, Berlin: Petropolis, 1924, illustrated

The present work is from a series of paintings and works on paper by Grigoriev from the early 1920s, which were published in 1924 under the title Boui bouis au bord de la mer. The book appeared in German, French and Russian.

The works from this series were inspired by Grigoriev’s travels around the port towns of France, including Marseille and Toulon, and depict regulars of the local taverns and bars, or boui-bouis, as these establishments were known in French at the time.
