N.R.A. Vroom, A Modest Message, as Intimated by the Painters of the 'Monochrome Banketje,' Schiedam 1980, vol. II, p. 71, cat. no. 357c, reproduced (as probably Gerret Heda).

Many variations and copies are known of this composition, which derives from a 1637 panel by Willem Claesz. Heda in the Museum Mayer van den Bergh, Vienna. Both Corenlis Mahu and members of his workshop produced versions of Heda's work, attesting to its widespread popularity.
