Built to celebrate the end of the plague, the magnificent Church of Santa Maria della Salute flanks this composition at left. At right stands the Biblioteca Marciana, designed by Jacopo Sansovino and among Europe’s oldest libraries. The present work draws inspiration from Canaletto’s depictions of the popular vista.
