On 25 October 1978, Karl Lagerfeld organised a Venetian ball, ‘From the City of the Doges to the City of the Gods’. The ball was a landmark in Parisian nightlife, with several thousand people attending in 18th-century costumes.
The drawing most probably shows Karl Lagerfeld in disguise at this major event.
