Yashima Gakutei (1786-1868)

The complete set of Three Heroes of the State of Shu (Shoku sanketsu)

Edo period, 19th century

 

the complete set of three woodblock prints, surimono, embellished with metallic pigments and embossing, from the series Three Heroes of the State of Shu (Shoku sanketsu), each signed Gakutei Sadaoka egaku (Drawn by Gakutei Sadaoka), carver or printer’s mark Shiba Konori (Konori of Shiba District), privately issued, circa 1824; each with collector’s seal of Gerhard Pulverer to verso, and comprising:

 

- No. 1, Liu Bei (Sono ichi, Ryubi)

- No. 2, Guan Yu (Sono ni, Kan'u)

- No. 3, Zhang Fei (Sono san, Chohi)

 

Each shikishiban surimono: each approx. 21 x 18.7 cm., 8¼ x 7⅜ in.
