A group of twenty nagaban surimono

Edo – Meiji period, 19th century

 

twenty woodblock prints, surimono, variously signed, sealed and inscribed, privately issued, depicting various subjects; each with collector's seal of Gerhard Pulverer to verso, and including: Jo and Uba, the Spirits of the Pine Trees of Takasago and Sumiyoshi, embellished with embossing, signed Katei, sealed Shuchu sen [Drunken Immortal]; elderly man bearing two baskets of foliage, signed and sealed Nangai; two young boys fishing, 1864; shape-shifting fox spirit in a kimono; waterwheel, signed Nangai, 1853; drake among reeds, signed Keigaku... ga, sealed Keisai; man on a veranda gazing at heavy snow; an open and closed fan on a red lacquer table, embellished with gold pigment

 

Each horizontal nagaban: each approx. 19 x 53 cm., 7½ x 20⅞ in.
